Quick Hits: The Watchful Yzerman Edition
In Red Wings Land
Detroit Red Wings can feel Steve Yzerman evaluating them: ‘He watches everything’ | Freep
“His presence is felt every day in our locker room and it’s a good thing,” Dylan Larkin said. “It’s holding guys accountable. Everyone wants to impress him, because he’s our new GM. It’s been good for our team.”
Well, there’s no doubt that Yzerman is keeping a watchful eye on his team. He’s putting in the work scouting his players. By now, he’s got to know this roster front and back and inside out.
I think that could make for a very interesting offseason for the Red Wings. I don’t expect any big splashes in free agency or anything super crazy, but Yzerman absolutely has to know who is worth keeping around and who the team should move on from.

Thanks to our reader jhdsgj for sharing this in yesterday’s QH comments. Figured it was worth an additional mention today.

She stopped by the arena today to say hi to Danny and show him what she’s been working on. 🤗 pic.twitter.com/sEQMRY5Nh7
Lucy named her dog DeKeyser and said Danny’s surgery this season inspired her to walk. ♥️ pic.twitter.com/clAsWPSuo8

For those of you that may not remember, Lucy & @DeKeyser5 first met 3 years ago on Feb. 7, 2017.

Stamkos out 6-8 weeks for Lightning | NHL.com
Steven Stamkos will be out 6-8 weeks for the Tampa Bay Lightning because of a core muscle injury.
The center will have surgery Monday. The recovery time would cause him to miss the rest of the regular season and likely the Eastern Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
That’s a bummer for Yzerman’s former team. Although, I don’t think it’ll slow the Lightning down too much.
