In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings mailbag: Does it make sense to trade Luke Glendening? | Freep

Is Glendening worth sacrificing for the rebuild? Not unless a team makes Yzerman a “Godfather”-inspired offer — that is, one he can’t refuse. Glendening sets a valuable example for young players with how hard he works on and off the ice, and brings intangibles in his general leadership. The Wings are more and more Dylan Larkin’s team, but he can’t carry them alone and Glendening is a pillar in the locker room. He adds a dose of stability, and that’s valuable to a team that is going through as many growing pains as the Wings.

Listen, I like Luke Glendening, but it would take a “Godfather” type offer to move him?

Let’s not be silly here.

He turns 31-years-old in three months and carries a $1.8M cap hit. Sure, that’s not outrageous, but he’s a bottom six player that can be replaced by someone cheaper. Yes, Glendening works hard and has leadership qualities, but the Red Wings rebuild still needs a ton of assets and talent upgrades. If some team makes a reasonable offer, I’d take it. Give me another lottery ticket in the NHL draft and a chance to build to the future.

Who gets traded? Who gets recalled? Red Wings have questions after break | MLive

Chances are, there are few players on the current roster Yzerman wouldn’t consider moving. That list probably includes Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, Filip Zadina and Filip Hronek.

Agreed.

If it’s not one of the players named above (and maybe Robby Fabbri too), the Wings should absolutely consider all trade offers and the chance to acquire draft picks or prospects.

Grand Rapids Report

Since the Wings are on their bye week, it appears that Ted Kulfan has been spending some time with the Griffins.

“Top five defenseman in the National Hockey League right there,” said Bob Kaser, the Griffins’ longtime broadcaster, as Kaser walked by and noticed Seider. “Guaranteed.”

Moritz Seider a top five defenseman in the NHL? I love the sound of that.

For Red Wings prospect Joe Veleno, reunion with Alexis Lafreniere would be ‘real nice’ | Detroit News

He has the skill set, instincts and size (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) to be an impact player fairly quickly in the NHL.

“He’s got everything,” Veleno said. “He’s skilled, can skate, and he’s a big boy who can play physical, too. He’s a good teammate, too, a lot of guys will like him. He’s a good guy to have in the locker room who brings a lot of energy to the team.

“He’s a game-changer. He can take a game in his hands when he wants

That does indeed sound ‘real nice.’
