Quick Hits: The Seider Sneak Peek Edition

In Red Wings Land

Will Red Wings take look at Moritz Seider? Several factors in play | MLive

General manager Steve Yzerman continues deliberating what to do.

“There’s factors in play — where Grand Rapids is at, what’s best for his development,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “It would be hard-pressed for me to see them totally secure a playoff spot; it usually comes down to the end. Steve and I have had conversations about the possibility (of recalling Seider), but we’ve made no definitive decisions on whether or not that will happen.”

I, for one, am extremely excited about being able to watch Moritz Seider play with the Red Wings. I want to see what the kid can do at the NHL level. It’ll be a short stint and no more than nine games, but it’ll be a nice sneak peek at the future of Detroit’s defense.

31 Thoughts: Caps could be interested in moving Nick Jensen, may want Mike Green back | RMNB

“I’ve heard that Jensen might be available,” Friedman says about an hour at 10 minutes into the podcast. “It just hasn’t worked there as much as they’d like. You just added Dillon, and your top four is gonna be Carlson, Orlov, Kempny, and Dillon. I think Washington might have some interest in [Mike] Green. Jensen’s extended for four years at two and a half million. That’s a big number. I just don’t think it’s worked there as much as everybody hoped, so I could see Jensen potentially being moved.”

I’ll take a 3rd round pick from the Capitals for Green.

TRADE BAIT: SEVEN STRUGGLING PLAYERS WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM A CHANGE OF SCENERY AT THE TRADE DEADLINE | The Hockey News

Hello Andreas Athanasiou and Jimmy Howard.

NHL Power Rankings: Who’s buying? Who’s selling? Edition | Sportsnet

31. Detroit Red Wings

Seller with little to sell. There’s not much of a market for aging rental pieces like Mike Green, Trevor Daley and Jimmy Howard, all of whom are playing out the string in an epic tank year. There’s no pressure to move now, but Steve Yzerman could begin putting his stamp on the club by making early decisions on intriguing RFAs like Andreas Athanasiou and Anthony Mantha. At some point, he must decide if these forwards are the ones he wants to build around.

We’ll know pretty soon what Yzerman wants to do.
