Detroit Red Wings Roster Update: Andrej Nestrasil Claimed off Waivers by Carolina Hurricanes
CAR claims Andrej Nestrasil from DET on waivers.

Red Wings forward Andrej Nestrasil, who had just two assists and no goals in 13 games for the Red Wings this season, was claimed off the waiver wire by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Nestrasil won a spot on the roster with a strong performance in preseason, passing over players like Mitch Callahan, Landon Ferraro, and Teemu Pulkkinen, but his low points output despite playing 2:21 on the power play per game this season had him fall below 0.5 point-per-game player Daniel Cleary and waiver-exempt Tomas Jurco on the team's depth chart, necessitating a trip through waivers so the Red Wings could take Stephen Weiss off injured reserve and have him play a conditioning stint in Grand Rapids this weekend.
This is a case exactly like Mattias Ritola and Jan Mursak where my sadness to see a player leave for nothing is tempered by the fact that the player had a lot of time to show he was capable of producing at an NHL level and simply didn't do that. I'll honestly wish Nestrasil well, but Detroit has a number of players of his caliber waiting for their shot as well.
