Detroit Red Wings vs.Anaheim Ducks: Updates, Lineups, Keys to the Game

Updates

Things are all a bit confused today, as a guy placed on IR yesterday could be back tonight:

If this does end up happening, somebody has to get off the roster to make space for AA coming back. With Kaski, Biega, Svechnikov, and Kuffner all looking like they’re not part of the regular lineup based on the diggers’ reporting on line rushes, take your pick. I would suppose Kuffner just because he’s a forward, but I’ve been wrong before. Svechnikov also makes sense as he would be the offensive option in the event the AA batteries weren’t charged.

We’ll keep an eye out an update as soon as we have that info.

[UPDATE:]

As of right now we don’t have him in the lineup, but the mere possibility of Biega taking Andreas Lilja’s old number against the Ducks gives me the ol’ orange-juice-and-toothpaste taste in my mouth.

In the “awwwwww” department:

On the other side of the ledger:

The big question is whether we’ll have SuperMantha versus the Ducks’ own man of Steel tonight.  We’re currently showing he won’t be in as he’s been injured, but we’ll see!

Finally, for all of you rooting for the third team on the ice:

Keys to the Game

Spread the love

The whole “depth” thing is probably going to be in 90% of these posts, but it’s worth bringing up until the Red Wings start showing the guys can match well from the bottom up. Anaheim is a team with skill smattered throughout their lineup that’s largely going to be expected to make a few… eh… not-household-names better.

Just give it to Mantha

When you’ve got the hot hand like Big Tony, you keep dishing it to him and enjoy him serving up his spicy meatballs.

PP2 vs. the pressure

You’ll notice opposing PK units putting a lot more pressure on the puck when our second unit is on the ice. With less skill on that line, the defense can get a bit more aggressive. Quick puck movement to open areas is tough to do against pressure, but if that 2nd unit can figure it out, they’re going to get some real good looks at the net.
