Elmer Soderblom Traded to Pittsburgh

Motion detected from Steve Yzerman’s office.

But maybe not in the way we were expecting. The Red Wings are trading Elmer Soderblom to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for San Jose’s third-round pick in 2026.

I’ve got no real opinion of this trade. Soderblom was a 6th round pick in 2019, so I guess you can say Yzerman turned a 6th into a 3rd. This could be a precursor to David Perron making his return. Could also be a precursor to another trade.

I had the feeling that Elmer Soderblom was one of the “guys who are just jerseys” that Todd McLellan spoke of a week or so ago. Couldn’t carve out a role here in Detroit, so getting a 3rd rounder for him is pretty awesome.
