Former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom donates Hall of Fame jersey to save hometown team in Sweden
We all know that Nicklas Lidstrom is not only one of the two best defensemen to ever play the game, he's also The Perfect Human. In his early years, long before his emergence as the league's top defenseman, Nick Lidstrom played for Vasteras IK, which was located in his hometown. TSN's BarDown posted an article stating that Vasteras IK has gone bankrupt:
It's been over 20 years since Lidstrom played for his hometown team, but that doesn't mean that the team doesn't have a special place in his heart. According to their website, the team is bankrupt and the overall deficit is around 4-5 million.
The auction can be found at Tradera.com, a Swedish site comparable to our eBay.com. Here's the link to the auction. It's in Swedish, obviously. Here's a photo of what is up for bidding:
Unfortunately, you only get the jersey. Not the dapper Swedish gentleman holding it.
Lidstrom will be donating all proceeds from the auction to the team that started his career that brought four Stanley Cup Championships, and seven Norris Trophies to his resume. A truly generous gesture from a very wonderful person. If you have a ton of money and are interested in owning a piece of history, you can bid on Lidtsrom's Hockey Hall of Fame jersey. It's currently sitting just north of $6,000 USD.
