Game Day Updates: Blue Jackets vs Red Wings

Credit: Brian Bradshaw Sevald-USA TODAY Sports

Kind of a big game tonight for both teams, though not necessarily a must-win for the Red Wings. The Blue Jackets are currently the second wild card team in the East, two points back from Detroit. It’s important for the Wings to keep bringing in points, but with Tampa has won six straight games and the space between that first wild card spot in the East and the third spot in the Atlantic won’t seem to shrink, at least for now.

Tonight’s game is a bit of an appetizer for Saturday’s Stadium Series game at Ohio Stadium. Columbus has been dismal on the road this season, with a record of 9-16-4. The Wings are the beneficiary of the next couple of games — tonight is at LCA, and Saturday, while in Columbus, will have a large portion of Red Wings fans in attendance.

Michael Rasmussen skated today, but it’s unlikely he will return to the lineup tonight. Cam Talbot gets the start. What’s the over/under for how many times FDSN mentions that Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski were roommates?
