Game Day Updates: Panthers vs Red Wings

Credit: Tim Fuller-Imagn Images

Nice win over Carolina on Friday, now it’s on to an equally tough opponent in the Florida Panthers. Ideally the Red Wings will close out the remaining seven games with a total of 14 points, and maybe a playoff berth. This season has been less than ideal, however.

Cam Talbot will get the start for Detroit tonight. Florida is missing several key players at the moment, so there is a chance for Talbot to steal his team two points. An important factor in tonight’s game is that the Panthers played last night and were shutout 3-0 by the Ottawa Senators. This team is currently on a four-game skid — a potentially vulnerable target for these playoff-hungry Red Wings.

Out of town — Alexander Ovechkin is officially the NHL’s all-time leading goalscorer. Ovechkin scored career goal no. 895 early this afternoon against the Islanders. The Red Wings posted a message to Ovechkin from Patrick Kane on social media.
