Game Day Updates: Red Wings vs Canadiens

Credit: Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Big game tonight. The Montreal Canadiens are the only team that currently stands in Detroit’s way for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are six points back from the Habs with one game in hand. A regulation win for Detroit would swing their playoff chances to “slim” while a loss in regulation would pretty much put a bow on this season. MoneyPuck dot com posted some numbers on social media that paints the picture of how important this game is for both teams.

After tonight, there are five games left in the regular season for our Wings. Even getting two points tonight, the chances of making the postseason are a long shot, but I feel more confident in this team than I did a week or two ago. I’m not concerned with making the playoffs — just finish the season strong and regroup/retool in the offseason.

Cam Talbot is going to get the start again, because he has earned it. He’s been one of the best players on the team the last handful of games. Austin Watson was called up from Grand Rapids this morning, we’ll see if he will be inserted into the lineup.

That’s it. Just win. Go Wings.
