The Red Wings will look to right a three-game winless skid tonight, hosting the Buffalo Sabres at 7:00 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena. It’s been a rocky start for Detroit, but they escaped October with a 4-5-1 record. While that’s not pretty, they’re still in the thick of a glut of Eastern Conference teams playing around .500 hockey, so one good streak could go a long way.
Buffalo is among that group, and they handed Detroit a 5-3 loss a week ago today. We’ve definitely seen the Sabres have the Red Wings’ number in recent years — their offense can pour it on if given the opportunity. Overall, the Sabres are 4-6-1 and have a number of players in their young core — namely Dylan Cozens, Jack Quinn and Jiri Kulich — who have struggled to get going out of the gate. They’re also on a back-to-back, having lost at home to the Islanders last night.
The Red Wings will run much the same lineup tonight, with Vladimir Tarasenko returning after missing a game with the lingering team illness, and Austin Watson returned to the Griffins. Tyler Motte is still unavailable due to an upper-body injury, and Cam Talbot will be between the pipes.
