The Red Wings are at home tonight and looking for eight consecutive wins against the San Jose Sharks. Tonight’s game will feature a familiar face — defenseman Jake Walman will suit up for the Sharks. I know there will be plenty of people there to show their support for Walman, but I am intereted to hear how the crowd reacts when he has the puck.
The last time these two met, San Jose beat Detroit 5-4 in overtime. That was November 18 and amid a brutal west coast trip that somehow Derek Lalonde survived. The Sharks will see a much different team this time around — one that is damn-near firing on all cylinders. Let’s call it a potential “payback” game for the Wings because San Jose is starting goaltender Alexander Georgiev. Last time he played Detroit was in December for his former club, the Colorado Avalanche. Georgiev stopped 29 of 30 shots in that game and propelled his then-team to a 2-1 victory.
We got some injury updates today — Wings head coach Todd McLellan says that Alex Lyon is getting close to returning, but Ville Husso will get the start tonight. Also of note — Jeff Petry’s injury was more severe than we thought. We don’t have specifics, but he won’t be joining the Wings for the upcoming road trip and still has yet to begin skating.
