Game Notes: Red Wings Embarrassed in 4-0 Loss

Okay, I’m going to match the team’s effort and keep this edition of game notes brief. It was yet another disastrous and embarrassing performance for the Detroit Red Wings Monday night against the St. Louis Blues at Little Caesars Arena. Coming off back-to-back losses to the Montreal Canadiens, and going into the final game before the holiday break, the Wings laid an absolute egg and got their asses shutout 4-0.

Usually I’ll have at least one or two positive notes from the game, but I’ve really got nothing. I’ll do my best.

Goaltending Concerns?

The way the team plays certainly doesn’t help, but I can’t be the only one who has noticed goaltending get a little soft in recent games, mainly Cam Talbot. He’s let in a handful of goals that you would expect to be routine saves for him. Perhaps it’s not his fault, but without steady goaltending, this team is even deeper shit than before.

Can’t With This Coach

Anyone else watching this game mutter to themselves “what the hell are they doing out there?” I definitely did. This coaching staff has this roster playing downright loser-mentality hockey. At times it even seems like the players are deliberately playing in a manner that will get someone fired. I don’t know what it is. Is it a practice thing? Motivation perhaps? Or is it a wretched potpourri of bad tendencies all coming together to create one seriously underwhelming product? Even with current injuries, this roster can NOT be this bad. I mean, after the first two period the Red Wings had a measly NINE shots on goal. That’s not winning hockey at any level. No chance in hell.

Who’s Gonna Step Up?

I’m not just talking players, and definitely not coaching because it seems accountability is out the window at this point. I’m looking at you, Steve Yzerman. This is a sinking ship in need of a shake-up. Maybe playoffs weren’t really the expectation in your eyes, but you have to do something to show this fanbase that you’re committed to making improvements and holding personnel accountable. No one is gonna wanna keep paying these ticket prices, beer prices, food prices, etc to watch such an incompetent group of players and coaches try to figure it out. We’re waving the white flag here, man. The team is getting booed off the ice. Help.

Positivty Corner

Marco Kasper’s line with Joe Veleno and Jonatan Berggren looks good, but not good enough to elevate the team given the limited role.

That’s it from me. I’ve got nothing else to add. Sorry for the negativity, but that’s all I have after watching the last three games. Thankfully we all get a few days of not dealing with this nonsense. Enjoy the holidays, everyone. Wishing you and your loved ones good health and the best of vibes. <3
