Would you look at that — the Detroit Red Wings have won three of their last four games. It wasn’t the prettiest defensive game, but the Wings managed to give the Flyers a six-piece Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena. This win comes just a week after the Wings dropped a 4-1 decision against the Flyers in Philly.
The 6-4 win puts the Wings at 13-14-4 on the season. It’s a two-game win streak following last Saturday’s win at home against Toronto.
Offensive Eruption
Six goals in this game for Detroit alone. SIX! Goaltending clearly optional in this game for both sides. It’s not like they were peppering Philadelphia’s goalie either, just a modest 24 shots on goal.
Edvinsson Leaves Game
Simon Edvinsson left the game with an upper-body after playing just 5:36 of ice time. The severity of the injury is unclear, but this is a huge loss for both the Wings and the player.
Big Game from the Big Guys
Patrick Kane, JT Compher, Dylan Larkin, and Lucas Raymond all had multi-point games. It was particularly sweet for Kane, who picked up his first goal November on a beauty of a shot:
This was Patrick Kane’s 78th career game-winning goal.
Moritz Seider also had a huge game. He had to pick up some ice time with the Wings down a man after Edvinsson left — Seider ended up logging north of 28 minutes on the ice, and an assist to go with it. Moritz has been as steady as they come lately. Ben Chiarot, who was a +3 with three hits and a couple of blocked shots, led the team in ice time with 29:14.
Lyon Bit in Return
I’m trying to give Alex Lyon some grace here. He’s been hurt, and it’s his first start since November 25. Four goals allowed on 19 shots — and to be fair, some were not his fault, but that’s just gotta be better. I’m not too worried about it, but it’s worth mentioning.
Side Note
I gotta pick on Jeff Petry just a little bit. He got absolutely dog-walked by Owen Tippett at a pretty crucial point in the game. Still, I thought he had a better game than Erik Gustafsson.
The Wings have Thursday off and then are looking at a back-to-back with Montreal on Friday and Saturday. I’m sure both of those games will be totally normal. [sarcasm]
