GIF Recap: Red Wings Beat Hurricanes in Third Period Comeback

In a potential playoff-clinching game, the Detroit Red Wings came and did what they needed to do – Win. While it was a bit too close for comfort, the reuniting of Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg carried the Wings over the Hurricanes, and one step closer to their 24th consecutive playoff appearance.

There’s not much to look at, but I did my best to catch all of the beautiful goals!

Henrik Zetterberg has hands, and did he ever use them here. Great play by Stephen Weiss to grab the puck and deliver it to the wide-open captain. Hank deked, and popped the biscuit top shelf.

Kind of a silly goal here, because Anton Khudobin should have had this no problem. Pavel Datsyuk gains the zone, leaves the puck in Gustav Nyquist’s path of direction and lets him do his thing. Nyquist now one goal away from tying his career-high for goals in a season.

Here’s the game-winner, and probably the best play that was made all game. Henrik Zetterberg goes on a magical adventure, and takes the Hurricanes by storm. Even with Justin Faulk nearly knocking him over, Hank kept possession of the puck, wrapped around the net, and dished it up to Pavel Datsyuk, who initially had the puck in his skates, but he did the Magic Man thing. The Euro-Twins are back.

I wasn’t able to grab any videos of Jimmy Howard, but he had himself a spectacular night in net, and holding the fort for the outshot Red Wings. I think the controversy has been put to sleep for now. He’s given Detroit the best shot at winning over his past few appearances. We all doubted him, but I think we are all happy to have those doubts proven to be silly.

Let’s get two more points and go for the big trophy, gang.
