Griffins sign Alex Globke to one-year deal starting next season

Red Wings affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins have signed Waterford native Alex Globke to a contract which will kick in as of next season. Globke was a guy that has attended the club’s prospect development camps in the past couple of years.

Globke will likely end up being a serviceable depth acquisition for the Griffins going into next season. The six-foot-three, 209-pound center appeared in 100 games with the Lake Superior State Lakers, and was named WCHA Rookie of the Year in 2013-2014.

More from the Griffins press release:

The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday signed forward Alex Globke (GLOBE-key) to a standard player’s contract for the 2016-17 season.

A native of Waterford, Mich., Globke spent the last three seasons competing for the Lake Superior State Lakers (WCHA), where he appeared in 100 games and accumulated 49 points (21-28—49). The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder contributed eight points (4-4—8) in 28 games during his 2015-16 junior season and helped the Lakers reach the WCHA playoffs for the second consecutive year.

During his freshman campaign in 2013-14, Globke was named the WCHA’s Rookie of the Year while leading the WCHA in rookie scoring with 31 points (12-19—31) and tying for seventh nationally. Majoring in economics and finance, he was a two-time selection to the WCHA All-Academic Team (2014-15, 2015-16).

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Globke played in 60 games for the Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) in 2012-13 and tied for ninth in the league with 68 points (24-44—68). During the 2011-12 season, he totaled 42 points (15-27—42) in 59 games for the Port Huron Fighting Falcons (NAHL).

With only three games remaining in the regular season, the playoff-bound Griffins host the Lake Erie Monsters tonight at 7 p.m.
