Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
We’ve touched on the Patrick Kane situation in a few Quick Hits posts over the last few months, and it didn’t seem worth much deeper of a dive than that. After all, when it comes to a player near the end of his career looking to pick a destination to chase a Stanley Cup… it’s been a minute since the ultimate destination has been Detroit.
But rumors that the Red Wings have been circling around Kane, or that Kane is opening to joining the Red Wings, have persisted for a few months, and feel as though they’ve intensified in the days leading up to Kane’s decision, which will reportedly come this week.
The most notable reports to me are Detroit’s inclusion on Chris Johnston’s list of potential destinations after speaking to Kane’s agent Pat Brisson, and Elliotte Friedman’s most recent reporting on the upcoming decision. He mentions a few teams there, but his segment on last night’s Hockey Night in Canada essentially only focuses on Florida and Detroit:
So let’s entertain the idea, look at how Kane fits the various teams said to be in the mix for him, and get into the good, the bad, and the ugly about Patrick Kane potentially joining the Red Wings.
