Avs Blog: Mile High Hockey

Dial up your hate meters up to 11, the Avalanche have come to town. The Red Wings are riding a three game win streak and look to keep building the good momentum. Our offense has woken up and things seem to be clicking while our defense is having holes punched in it left and right. However, we have Petr Mrazek so who needs defense? The Avalanche are coming off a terrible homestand and started their road trip in Ottawa last night.

Overall record:

117-64-41-5 (W-L-T-OL)

The good moment:

You’re going to be bombarded with the history between these two teams in the lead-up to the outdoor game, so I’ll just say pick your favorite moment from Fight Night at the Joe. I personally am going to mentally replay the moment Shanahan tackled Roy over and over and over again.

The bad moment:

Again, there are a lot of things to get mad about, but spare some extra hate for Cody McLeod’s cheap hit on Kronwall.

Know the enemy:

The Avalanche are lead offensively by Matt Duchene and Nate MacKinnon, so we’ll need to keep them contained. Remember Jarome Iginla? Well, Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla plays for the Avs too and he is dangerous on the powerplay. Overall, the Avs have been awful lately. They haven’t been losing hard fought games where they just needed a good bounce to turn it around, or clanking shots off the post, instead they’ve been showing the urgency and tenacity of an empty pudding cup. Will the Avs show some bounceback tonight?

The Coaching match-up:

Jeff Blashill will be facing everyone’s favorite ball of rage, Patrick Jacques Roy. There are so many things I could tell you about Roy, but today’s Coach Fact is that one of my old coworkers played in a beer league hockey game against Roy and he quit halfway through the game because every time someone scored on him they celebrated like they won the Stanley Cup.

Closing thoughts:

The Avalanche give up a lot of shots and a lot of goals, so this would be a great night for someone like Nyquist to regain his scoring touch. Don’t be surprised if Athanasiou chips in a goal as well. I’d say something mean about our powerplay but let’s be optimistic and predict they score tonight. This is a game we should win in regulation, so let’s take care of business and grab these two points.

LET’S GO RED WINGS!
