The Red Wings were building up some momentum before we ran into the Blackhawks on Wednesday, and now we’re in enemy territory looking for revenge. The Wings are dangerously well rested, and it’s a 5PM game on a Sunday, which are all warning signs pointing to a classic slow start. The Blackhawks are also well rested with their last game being a loss to Boston on Thursday.

Overall record:

366-267-84-13 (W-L-T-OL)

A historical moment:

Game Five. Darren Helm was the hero who not only scored the game winning goal in overtime, but killed about 30 seconds of a Blackhawks powerplay single handedly. What you may not remember, or may have repressed, is how heavily the Red Wings depended on Brett Lebda who played 25 minutes and had two assists in the absence of Nick Lidstrom. Dan Cleary was your other Red Wings goal scorer.

Know the enemy:

The Blackhawks offense is lead by Patrick “[Redacted]” Kane with help from Artemi “Too Old To Be A Troo Rookie” Panarin and Jonathan “Three Consecutive Penalties In 5:34” Toews. The Blackhawks are kind of odd in that they’ll go on a tear and then completely fall apart for a game or two, and after a somewhat lackluster February they are due to start stringing some wins together. The Blackhawks powerplay made us look like fools on Wednesday, so the Wings need to get the penalty kill back on track.

The Coaching match-up:

Jeff Blashill will be clashing with the big Q himself, Joel Quenneville. Coach Fact: Q played one season with an AHL team called the Baltimore Skipjacks and scored 6 goals in 59 games. What is a skipjack? I’m glad you asked. A skipjack is a fishing boat used for oyster dredging and is the state boat of Maryland.

Closing thoughts:

Dylan Larkin” and “slump” are not terms I would have predicted anyone putting together so soon, but here we are. That’s not to say Larkin hasn’t been effective, he just hasn’t been appearing on the score sheet. Look for him to start taking more shots and doing a little less passing, the Jeff Blashill Bingo Wheel has lead to a lot of line changes for Larkin this season but I think he is settled in and primed to do some damage tonight. He still leads the team in goals but Tatar and Nyquist are sneaking up on him, which is not a bad thing. Every point matters, and stealing points from Chicago is always fun, so let’s do it!

LET’S GO RED WINGS!
