The Detroit Red Wings start a five game homestand with a Friday night match-up against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus is one of the more interesting stories in the NHL. They are riding a four game win streak and are just a point behind the Pittsburg Penguins and the New York Rangers for first in the Metropolitan division. They present a balanced scoring attack with seven players over the 15 point mark and one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, Sergei Bobrovsky. Meanwhile, the Red Wings are gaining strength. Andreas Athanasiou and Jimmy Howard have returned to the active roster. However, Petr Mrazek looks to be in line for the start and Athanasiou is ready to play, but still not sure if he will be in the lineup.
