Well, the first week went about as disastrous for the Red Wings as possible without losing a player to injury. Two bad loses down in the Sunshine State has left the team and the fan base looking for answers. The last lose in particular, a 4-1 drubbing by the Florida Panthers that was not even THAT close, showed some just how far they are from being a serious contender.
The Wings return home for their home opener against the Ottawa Senators and hope that the friendly surrounding and springy boards of Joe Louis Arena will put the spring back in their step that was missing down in Florida. No words yet on any possible lineup changes for the Wings but I would not be surprised to see Ryan Sproul or possibly even Nick Kronwall in the lineup and with known goon Chris Neil likely going for Ottawa it is probably a good bet Steve Ott will be going for the Wings.
The Senators are off to an interesting start. First they became part of history by giving up four goals to Auston Matthews in his first NHL game before beating the Maple Leafs in overtime. Then they jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the Habs then gave up three straight before tying it up and eventually winning in a shootout.
