Detroit lost a winnable game in Dallas last night but overall probably got a fitting fate. Dallas carried more of the play against a Red Wings team that was playing with three third lines, but I don’t think the Wings were as overmatched as the shot totals suggested.
The story of last night’s game was the veteran forwards and the young defensemen, as I think Luke Glendening and Sam Gagner were the two best forwards for the Wings while the pairing of Dennis Cholowski and Filip Hronek carried the day on defense... although I will say that it’s surprising to see Danny DeKeyser played more than 21 minutes yesterday with how generally unnoticeable he was (which is a good thing).
Dallas is trying to climb into the playoffs and last night helped the Wings climb out of the basement, tying Columbus at 39 points, but holding the tiebreaker for winning more games.
Anticipating Bernier vs. Oettinger in net tonight and unsure about the situation with Jakub Vrana, who was a late scratch with an undisclosed illness yesterday. Keep an eye out for GDU where we’ll share anything we learn.
