First off, I just wanted to acknowledge Ted Lindsay’s passing over the weekend. He was a great ambassador for the game and quite revered in the hockey community (rightfully so). I’m not sure there will ever be another like him on or off the ice and I look forward to hearing some stories from those in the Red Wings community about their encounters around the rink with “Terrible Ted.”

Game Preview

Every time these two teams clash, it always brings me back to the good ol’ days…

Mickey Redmond is pumped up in that video! Even though it’s a rivalry that’s fizzled out over the years — especially with Detroit’s move to the Eastern Conference — it still brings me back.

Can we expect the same fireworks in tonight’s game? Probably not. The Wings have dropped seven in a row and are just 2-6-2 in their last 10 overall. For Wings fans sitting at home and hoping for the top pick in June’s NHL Draft, this kind of losing is a recipe for success (if only Ottawa could get out of the way).

The Wings’s last road win was Feb. 12 in Nashville and tonight will be a tough test in Colorado against an Avalanche team fighting for a playoff spot (just three points out of the wildcard).

Lineup Notes

Trevor Daley returned to practice on Monday for the Wings. Maybe he will get a look over Jonathan Ericsson in tonight’s game?

The lines from yesterday’s practice looked like this…

Look, I’m a fan of what Luke Glendening brings to the lineup…in a BOTTOM SIX ROLE! For crying out loud Jeff Blashill! I’m convinced this guy has lost it behind the bench. If they intend on keeping Michael Rasmussen up in the NHL, at least play him higher in the lineup.

You’re playing for bragging rights this late in the season, so what is this accomplishing? Anyway, that’s my rant for the day — although, be sure to tune into the gameday updates as Blashill’s decision-making might stoke the fire once more.

On the other end of the bench, it would appear that Ian Cole avoided the wrath of the league for this hit during Sunday’s game…

At this point, Cole is expected to be in the lineup tonight.
