The Wings are winless in the last six and they’re facing down the team that has sort of become their biggest rival by default. Tampa wasn’t really supposed to be the team for Detroit to hate in the east, but here we are by virtue of a couple distant playoff series and a crushing head-to-head record. Also, the Yzer-factor. The Wings desperately need a W, and they’ve got a helluva team to try and wrangle it from tonight, but hey, Carolina only has a single loss, and it’s to Detroit, so crazy things can happen.

Lots of players are tentatively slated to be back tonight, which will obviously make a big difference on the flow of this game. It will be interesting to see if rust or prolonged effects of COVID end up being an issue for any of them. Maybe Detroit can still sneak out a win if they catch Tampa looking ahead on the schedule to...crap, they play Nashville after us.
