Game Preview
Today’s game sees Detroit playing without Andreas Athanasiou and Mike Green for the second straight game. Last game, however, they were held out in preparation for possible trades. Tonight, they are not in the lineup because they were, after all, traded.
While Mike Green was not nearly as good this season as he was when he first got to Detroit, losing him should hurt the defense corps in the short term.
Taking Athanasiou out of the lineup takes away one of the reasons to continue watching the team down the stretch. His ability to create offense out of nothing is something that will be missed.
Detroit goes up against a New Jersey team that is not mathematically eliminated yet, but who will be joining Detroit in the draft lottery. For their part, they traded Sami Vatanen and Wayne Simmonds yesterday.
So, basically we have the battle of the sellers, who are both close to the cellar.
