Hurricanes Blog: Canes Country

The Hurricanes (19-6-1) enter Sunday in a battle for the Central Division’s top spot with their storm-kindred southern neighbors from Tampa, who are the proud owners of a full half of the regulation wins that have come against Carolina nearly midway through their season.

Let that sink in: Carolina has lost six games in regulation and Tampa has been responsible for three of those. The fact that Detroit is responsible for another of them is one of those points-of-pride kind of things (shut up, Hawks fans, what are you even doing reading this?)

Of course, that was back in January and both teams were starting to suffer from the jolt of the season beginning as well as the spread of COVID throughout their rooms.  Last time these teams met was ten days ago where the Canes rope-a-doped Detroit to a 2-2 tie coming into the third period and then body-slammed them for the last 20 minutes to finish with a 5-2 victory.

The Wings are coming off an impressive showing in their last two games, taking three points against Tampa. Dylan Larkin has played like a man possessed since returning from injury and Anthony Mantha is the nicest person you know. They’re going to need to keep that up against a team that has yet to lose a game in March.

Let’s not talk about the Svechnikov brothers…
