The Wings kicked off their two-week war with Canada by defeating the Habs in Montreal for the first time in a thousand years. And the maple syrup on top being that we ruined their home opener. Thank you Helm, Bertuzzi, Mantha, and LGD for your service and thank you again Helm for your stone hands missed breakaway and reminding us of the old days.
Tonight, we face a mad Leafs team and the Babs frown lines of doom coming at home Detroit. The Leafs are recovering from a thorough butt kicking by the Lightning in their own house and will be looking for redemption. On a 3 game losing skid, they are 2-2-1 compared to our own 3-1-0.
What to watch out for? Obviously Auston Matthews and his questionable facial hair and increasingly square jaw…errrr I mean his hockey skillz and his linemates Nylander and…Andreas Johnsson. The Internet says Johnsson is in his second year as a full time Leaf and scored 20 goals last year. I’m not apologizing for not knowing who he is.
Everybody showed up for practice yesterday except Hronek who sustained an owie on his face in Montreal. Hronek sitting out of the game could be a death blow as he’s emerging as our top defenseman. As of yesterday, Hronek was declared “iffy” for the game, hopefully today we have heard or will soon hear that he is good to go. But safety first, especially this early in the season, head injuries are never something to take lightly.
And for the love of pancakes can the Wings PLEASE figure out the powerplay?
