The Red Wings head to Toronto tonight to take on the Maple Leafs for the first time since Mike Babcock got the boot. It will be interesting to watch Fox Sports Detroit tonight because I’m sure they’ll mention it, but they may or may not dig too deeply into the events surrounding Babcock’s exit from the Leafs’ bench.
I’ve felt that, for the most part, the Wings have played the Leafs pretty hard even since they’ve been a bottom feeder. It would be great to see them stick it to Toronto tonight. I’ve never been too invested in the paltry rivalry between the Wings and Leafs, mostly because I was just a little kid when the Norris Division was a thing. I really, really miss the days of can’t-miss games against Chicago, St. Louis, Anaheim, and San Jose, and so here’s to hoping something happens tonight to bring a little magic into something new and exciting to this season and future seasons going forward.
Here’s a little throwback to the 1987 Norris Division Finals. Enjoy the goalies standing tall as trees and Leafs’ Coach John Brophy’s hair.
