Post-Draft Prospect Profiles: Elmer Söderblom No. 159 to the Detroit Red Wings
Remember that pick? Odds are, you might not. Soderblom was a later round pick for Steve Yzerman, but Christoffer Hedlund’s post-draft report gives us a nice, in-depth look at what Soderblom could be. A strong, power forward-like player, but not one that will be ready soon. He’s what we call a “project.”

Could this be Steve Yzerman’s diamond in the rough?

The NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City kicked off Friday, with the Red Wings taking on the Blackhawks. Unfortunately, the baby Wings couldn’t top the Baby Hawks.

Some takeaways: Moritz Seider looked good. He had a near-goal later in the game, but I admired his physicality towards top players like Kirby Dach. He’s also a superior skater. Filip Zadina looked like an NHL talent, there’s nothing new there — he had the game-winner on his stick, but got robbed by the Hawks’ goalie.

Also have to hand it to Joe Veleno, he put up two goals in a rally for the Wings, who at one point were down 4-1.

Carolina Hurricanes Sign Jake Gardiner to Four-Year Contract | CanesCountry

The Carolina Hurricanes are at it again, everyone.

How do they keep doing it? The Canes got themselves a solid bottom-six defenseman in Gardiner, on a team-friendly term. There’s no doubt that they’re going for it, but can they compete for a Stanley Cup? I wouldn’t count them out after this signing, but it really all falls on goaltending.
