Stanley Cup Playoff Final Scoreboard Watch: Second Chances

Now that the Game 1 jitters have passed, it’s time to settle in for the long haul in this series. Both teams have seen what each other has to offer, and adjustments will be made as Pittsburgh looks to go up 2-0 against a San Jose team that just wants to even things up 1-1 before heading back to the Shark Tank. Only one team will get their way, while the other team will probably cry softly into their pillows tonight.

LAST GAME’S RECAP

Game 1 basically came down to whoever showed up for the third period. The Penguins came out quick in the first to grab a 2-goal lead, but San Jose would press hard in the second and even things up. Starting the third period tied 2-2, Pittsburgh came out flying and never looked back. To say the third was all Penguins would be an understatement – they must have played 17 minutes of offensive zone time with another 2:30 of neutral zone time. I’m sure that’s not 100% accurate, but that’s how the end of the game felt. Despite only winning the game 3-2, the Pens looked like they were in complete control for the final 20 minutes and will surely press to continue that tonight.

TONIGHT’S ACTION

Pittsburgh Penguins vs San Jose Sharks (Game 2), 8:00PM EDT – NBCSN

Redemption for the Sharks begins tonight. After getting soundly embarrassed at the end of Game 1, these guys will be out for vengeance. The Sharks’ change in tactics tonight will be a big departure from what the Penguins saw to end Monday night, which was mostly board play and scrambling dump-ins just trying to get fresh legs on the ice. Pittsburgh will look to impose more of the same on San Jose, which was smothering play from 3 lines that exposed mis-matches with the Pens’ depth – this is what allowed their depth players to put up all 3 goals in Game 1.

Why You Care Enough To Watch: Even though the end of Game 1 was seriously one-sided, the entire game itself was pretty back-and-forth. It was a coach’s duel, and tonight should be no different. Both squads showed the capability to assert themselves over each other, but it was Pittsburgh’s night to win the intellectual game behind the bench. Tonight should be another epic battle-of-brains as Sullivan and DeBoer match wits and wills in their quest for the Stanley Cup. Tune in.

Who wins tonight?

San Jose 49
Pittsburgh 22
