Happy Valentines Day from WIIM!
We have a total of 4 games today, two in the morning and two in the early afternoon.
For now, our focus will be on the two early games: Czech Republic vs. Latvia, and Sweden vs. Switzerland.
Czech Republic vs. Latvia
This game is not just an early game, it’s an early, early game. For you brave souls who got up at 3 AM to watch this game, I applaud you.
In terms of the implications of the game, the Czech’s will need to win in order to have a shot for the 2nd place finish in Group C. They were defeated 4-2 by Sweden on Wednesday.
The big question mark is whether or not Ondrej Pavelec will start this game or not. He was snubbed prior to the Sweden game, for unknown reasons, and his status for this game is still in question.
My prediction is a resounding victory for the Czech’s.
Sweden vs. Switzerland
The second game of the early morning bill is by far the better of the two. Puck drop is at 7.30 AM EST.
Both the Swedes and the Swiss are coming off victories of their own, and a win for either team today will effectively secure the top place in the group.
The status of Henrik Zetterberg is still unknown, and is 50/50 to play today.
While I do hope that Hank does play, the Swedes have plenty of other Red Wings to represent them. Nyquist, Alfredsson, Kronwall, and Ericsson, are all expected to play today.
I’m hoping for a dominating game by the Swedes. Proving that they are the best team in the Olympics.
BREAKING NEWS:
Henrik Zetterberg is out for the rest of the Olympics and will miss significant time with the Red Wings once the games are over. David has more on this shocking news here.
Heja Sverige!
