Open Thread 2: The Re-Opening Reopening

You’re not hockeyed out yet, are you?  We’re just getting started. Here’s what’s on tap for today. We’ll keep this as the open thread for today’s action.

Arizona Coyotes (11) at Nashville Predators (6)
Rogers Place, Edmonton
Best of 5: Series tied 0-0

Time: 2:00pm ET
TV: USA, NHL.TV, SN360, SN1, FS-TN, FS-A

Team Sites: Five for Howling, On the Forecheck

The Preds have slipped since their SCF appearance but are still a dangerous team. Like yesterday, we’re going to keep a focus on who starts quick vs. slow because that will make a huge difference. The Coyotes have have very dangerous scoring wingers that could do a lot of damage before Nashville’s defense can get into a groove.

Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins
Scotiabank Arena, Toronto
Eastern Conference Round Robin

Time: 3:00pm ET
TV: NBC, SN, TVAS

Team Sites: Broad Street Hockey, Stanley Cup of Chowder

The round robin games are interesting because they have the greatest reason for teams to strategize where they might want to end up in their first-round matchups, but also there’s no chance that’s happening because the round robin is so short and the variance is so large. This will be two teams trying their hardest to win with the only other things in the backs of their minds is knowing they have a playoff berth and maybe trying to save a little for the elimination round.

St. Louis Blues at Colorado Avalanche
Rogers Place, Edmonton
Western Conference Round Robin

Time: 6:30pm ET
TV: NBCSN, NHL.TV, SN360, TVAS2, ALT, FS-MW

Team Sites: St. Louis Game Time, Mile High Hockey

The defending champs start their round robin journey to figure out the seeding for the eventual first round.  The Avs have played well this year. Good for them. May they choke on farts.

Columbus Blue Jackets (9) at Toronto Maple Leafs (8)
Scotiabank Arena, Toronto
Best of 5: Series tied 0-0

Time: 8:00pm ET
TV: NHLN, SN, TVAS, FS-O

Team Sites: The Cannon, Pension Plan Puppets

John Tortorella is probably the first name that comes to mind if you were to ask people which coach would have the best opportunity to have gotten their team prepared for these games in the short timeframe that’s been allowed. The Leafs are capable of some goofy circus-shit kinda scoring but are just as capable of getting shut down by a zamboni driver or letting opponents walk past their overly-aggressive defense. I think the Leafs overcome their mistakes.

Minnesota Wild (10) at Vancouver Canucks (7)
Rogers Place, Edmonton
Best of 5: Series tied 0-0

Time: 10:30pm ET
TV: NBCSN, NHL.TV, SN, FS-N, FS-WI

Team Sites: Hockey Wilderness, Nucks Misconduct

Oh good it’s the matchup against an old tortured coulda-woulda-shoulda and the newest tortured coulda-woulda-shoulda for Wings fans. The vast overpayments for Parise & Suter versus not letting a guy continue to drop beyond his draft position to take a positional need instead. Obviously I’m rooting against individual players here and not for any particular team.
