The Patrick Kane era in Detroit is officially over. Elliotte Friedman is reporting that Kane is signing a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, carrying an AAV of $8 million.
Patrick Kane ends his tenure with the Red Wings with 163 points (57 goals, 106 assists) in 189 games over three seasons. It’s no surprise Kane is leaving Detroit, given the report from Chris Chelios that indicated he was down to either Buffalo or Chicago. Now the future HoF’er joins the team that drafted him 1st overall back in 2007.
The term/salary here isn’t something I would be interested in honestly. I get the sense Chicago wanted him back pretty bad and was willing to make a generous offer. His skill will no doubt be sorely missed here, but given the current situation with the Red Wings franchise, I can’t be bothered by this news. It’s still radio silence on the Dylan Larkin front and we don’t even know who the next GM will be. Best of luck to Kane, worst of luck to the Blackhawks.
