Prospect Links: Griffins Winning Weekend, Bertuzzi Contract, & More Hicketts Praise

The Griffins swept the Checkers in Charlotte this weekend, Tyler Bertuzzi signed a contract with the Wings and is hot hot hot, while Joe Hicketts continues to impress everyone and show why the Wings decided to sign him. Let’s get to the links!

GRIFFINS HOLD CHARLOTTE IN CHECK Griffins re-cap

There were no official highlights for this game, but We All Bleed Red has the Griffins goal for us.

Teemu Pulkkinen the right hand shot on the power play we deserve – YouTube

Griffins @ Checkers 10.18.14 Box Score The Griffins beat the Checkers 4-1 with Teemu Pulkkinen, Kevin Porter, and Andy Miele all scoring power play goals and Jeff Hoggan notching an even strength goal. Thomas McCollum made 21 saves and we had four fights with Colin Campbell, Chris Bruton, Andreas Athanasiou, and Kevin Porter all dropping the gloves.

Teemu Pulkkinen has 3 goals and 4 points in only 4 games and leads the team in both categories. He’s tied for the 2nd most PP goals in the AHL (2). He loves to shoot the puck & has already accumulated an AHL leading 18 shots on goal in only 4 games. He had 13 just in these two games against the Checkers. He and Tomas Nosek seem to be developing some nice chemistry together playing on the top line along with Mitch Callahan. Pulkkinen continues to get better and my goodness on the power play he’s money in the bank.

GRIFFINS USE MAN ADVANTAGE TO TOP CHECKERS Griffins re-cap

I put together some video highlights from the game Saturday night.

Detroit Red Wings’ Stephen Weiss returns, happy ‘to play without pain’
At the end of the article there’s a note that while Anthony Mantha’s still on crutches while recovering from a fractured tibia, on Sunday he went to Grand Rapids to join his soon to be teammates. With the Wings playing six of their next eight games on the road, there’s no reason for Mantha to sit in a hotel room all alone. As Holland said… ” I want him around teammates. I want him to build some relationships, go for supper.” That’s the best action because not only will it benefit him to get to know his teammates, but it’s better for his mental health as well.

Tyler Bertuzzi Named Guelph Storm Player of the Week for October 6-12
There’s a sentence in this article that jumped out at me while wearing a Don Cherry suit with a flashing goal light on top…. “Bertuzzi notched a goal and an assist and showed why he is considered one of the top power forwards in the Ontario Hockey League.” Tyler Bertuzzi has come a long way since he was drafted higher than anyone expected and he’s starting to turn heads outside of the Wings universe. Keep an eye on this kid.

Unbeaten record on line against B.C. rivals – Kelowna Capital News
Defencemen Mitchell Wheaton (upper body) and forward James Wishnowski (upper body) are both out with longer-term injuries. This is bad news for Wheaton, who missed almost half of the 2012-2013 season before with a shoulder injury- He got hurt on Jan 24th and missed the rest of the season and the summer camps. Hopefully this is something that’s not serious and he can get back to playing.
