Puckdrop Europe a Podcast featuring Nicklas Lidström

Nicklas Lidström sat down with Patrik Bexell for an episode of PuckDrop podcast. The Hockey Hall of Fame defender really looks like he could lace up a pair of skates and get on the ice to help out his hometown team Västerås in HockeyAllsvenskan, but these days he leaves the hockey for his four sons, who will have a tough choice if they reach international level, as they can suit up for both USA and Sweden. Lidström speaks about being a hockey parent, following his sons games when it used to be the other way around, and how it is to be a janitor or run the penalty box.

Nicklas talks about how some pre draft gamesmanship by Detroit, and remembers how happy he was to see, when watching the RedWings on rare occasions on Swedish TV, that no-one was wearing number nine as he played with that number in Västerås. For obvious reasons Lidström asked for number nine when he got to Detroit…

We speak about the Russian Five which; means one thing in Europe, and another in Detroit and the differences and similarities the two different lines actually had. The fact that he got to play both with and against them is fascinating and unreal as when Lidström faced them with Sweden the Berlin Wall stood tall, and no-one really though that it would come down.

There are more interesting things in the interview, however unfortunately the recording was interrupted as the restaurant opened up for business, hopefully it wont bother you all too much.

The podcast is also on iTunes.
