Red Wings’ Steve Yzerman, Scotty Bowman among candidates for top NHL milestone of ’90s | MLive.com
The NHL is picking the greatest milestone moment of the ’90’s, and Yzerman’s 500th goal and Bowman’s 1000th victory as a coach are two of the candidates.

Detroit Red Wings would love to have Daniel Alfredsson, 41, back | Detroit Free Press
Alfredsson may be aging, but, he still co-led the team in points last season. While we may not be able to count on him to replicate that production this season, he should still be one of our best players.

Red Wings outlook: Staying healthy the main issue with backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson | MLive.com
When he was healthy last season, Gustavsson was a very capable backup goaltender. Knowing that Petr Mrazek will almost certainly be the backup in 2015-2016, Gustavsson should be motivated to play really well, in order to help boost his chances of signing with another NHL team.

Report: Bertuzzi-Moore case settled out of court (Update: Bertuzzi’s lawyer confirms) | ProHockeyTalk
Finally, Moore, Bertuzzi, and us fans can find an end to this terrible event. We will probably never know the exact terms of the settlement, but, my guess is that it is not the $68 million that Moore was reportedly seeking earlier this summer. The whole incident was so incredibly unfortunate.

Clarke MacArthur signs five-year, $23.25 million extension with Senators | Puck Daddy
This past season was MacArthur’s first with the Senators. He scored 24 goals and 55 points in 79 games. His new contract gives him a $4,650,000 cap hit, which is pretty fair considering what he gives to the team.

The time when Mikael Granlund saved Minnesota’s season – SBNation.com
This was a great goal, and an even greater effort, by Granlund.

Ryan Malone pleads no contest to DUI, agrees to diversion program – CBSSports.com
Malone’s future in the NHL is still very much in question. His play over the past few seasons has been somewhat average, and he is 34 years old, which means that his production will probably continue to drop. Assuming that he can legally do it, I would recommend him playing in the AHL for a season, get back in shape, and then try to make a comeback into the NHL.

NHL announces 2014 preseason schedule | ProHockeyTalk
The 2014 preseason kicks off in a month, beginning on September 21st, and coming to an end on October 5th. The regular season starts three days later.

Charles Wang selling New York Islanders; new owners to take over in 2016 | Puck Daddy
Wang has sold the franchise to Jonathan Ledecky, who used to co-own the Capitals, and Scott Malkin.

NHL teams bid for new free agent Hayes – Sportsnet.ca
Kevin Hayes is still unsigned. The Avalanche, Flames, and Bruins appear to be the favorites to land him.

Report: Maple Leafs create analytics department, hire bloggers – CBSSports.com

The Leafs, who had already hired Kyle Dubas as a assistant GM, have now hired ExtraSkater’s founder Darryl Metcalf. Whether this is a sign of a stats revolution in the NHL or if this is just one team’s experiment is too early to tell. My guess is that advanced stats will continue to assimilate into the NHL front offices, but, the changes will not be as sudden, or as publicized, as those made by the Leafs.

Erik Karlsson would accept Sens captaincy. Is he the right pick? | The Hockey News
To me, there is no better pick for captain of the Senators. When a player is compared to Lidström, you have to take advantage of that. Karlsson would provide consistency and stability to the role, and, he is the face of the Senators franchise.

Report: MLSE CEO Leiweke to step down (Update: Leiweke denies move) | ProHockeyTalk
Conflicting reports here. Leiweke has said that he is not stepping down, but, that may just be a distractor in order to buy himself time.
