Quick Hits: Should The Red Wings Have Their Own Hall of Fame?

Red Wings News

Red Wings 5, Canucks 3: Power play strikes twice as winning streak stretched to four games | MLive.com
I was able to catch the last three minutes of the third period, which turned out to be extremely exciting. After the Canucks cut our lead in half, I was sure that the Wings were going to give up the equalizer and then drop a point in OT. Last season, that seemed to be a common theme. But, that has not been the case this season. I like this team. A lot.

Red Wings legend Gordie Howe resting comfortably, no longer experiencing back pain after mini-stroke | MLive.com
Great news for Mr. Hockey! Get well Gordie!

Justin Abdelkader day to day with shoulder injury | Red Wings Front
Great news! A severe injury to Abdelkader would have been awful. The Wings play again on Tuesday against the Panthers.

Chelios wants Red Wings Hall of Fame in new arena | Detroit Free Press
Considering how many amazing players have played for the Wings, and how difficult it is to have your number retired, I am all for a Red Wings’ Hall of Fame. It will allow the team to award players like Osgood, Shanahan, Chelios and the Grind Line; all players who deserve to be honored, but, were not great enough to have their jersey retired.

NHL News

What happened to the days of the dominant NHL goalie? | The Hockey News
Unlike skaters, goaltenders seem to historically have, for lack of a better term, “down” generations. Another reason why there are so few dominant goaltenders in today’s NHL is that the overall skill level of goaltenders is far higher than it has ever been.

Blue Jackets take lead in McDavid derby at quarter mark of NHL season | TSN
I still do not think that the Blue Jackets will be able to continue to be as bad as they have been so far. There is too much skill on their team that once some of their injured players return to health, they should be able to win enough games to push them out of the NHL’s bottom-three.

Claude Noel lands in Western Hockey League (Updated) | ProHockeyTalk
Quite a difference from the NHL. If Noel is successful in the WHL, he may be able to work himself back into NHL head coach talk in a few years.

Canadiens give Brendan Gallagher six-year deal | USA Today
Gallagher will have a cap hit of $3.75 million. Considering that Gallagher is still only 22-years-old, I think this contract is great for the Canadiens. If he continues to develop, then the Canadiens have him signed at a bargain. And, if he just stays at his current pace (13 points in 25 games), then the Canadiens have a fair contract on their hands.

Is it time for NJ Devils to fire Peter DeBoer? | Puck Daddy
The Devils have been off to a mediocre start to their season. But, while the team has been average, they have not been bad. I would be cautious about firing DeBoer.

Bruins place Krejci on IR | ProHockeyTalk
The Bruins will lose Krejci for at least their next four games.

Ryan Strome quietly having breakout year for New York Islanders | The Hockey News

Strome, who was drafted fifth overall by the Islanders in 2011, has 17 points in 24 games this season.

Jakub Voracek emerging as a star forward – SBNation.com
Voracek has been off to a phenomenal start to his season, scoring 32 points in 23 games. The Flyers on the other hand have not had a great season so far.

Canucks’ Hamhuis expected to be out till after Christmas | ProHockeyTalk
Dan Hamhuis has a groin injury, but, he does not need a surgery. He was injured on November 20th when the Canucks played the Anaheim Ducks.

Maple Leafs honor fallen former coach Pat Quinn with a video and ’23’ salute | Puck Daddy
Nice salute by the Leafs to Quinn.

Meet Zemgus Girgensons, the Buffalo Sabres’ tank-buster – CBSSports.com
In a season of anguish and heartbreak for Sabres‘ fans, Girgensons’ play has been a welcome surprise.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
