Alfie’s back remains a problem, but Wings staying patient | ProHockeyTalk
At this point, it seems very unlikely that Alfredsson will play this season. For his sake, and for the Wings’, I hope that he manages to play. But, the chances of that occurring are diminishing every day.

Red Wings’ Stephen Weiss ‘hungry to get back in lineup’ as he patiently waits for opportunity | MLive.com
After only managing to grab one point out of four possible in their last two games, you have to imagine that the Wings will give Weiss some playing time this weekend.

Kypreos: Panthers would like to trade Campbell – Sportsnet.ca
Apparently the Wings are interested in Brian Campbell. From a cap perspective, it does not make any sense. Due to Campbell’s massive contract, the Wings would have to not only move Jakub Kindl, but another roster player as well. Unless the Wings would consider shipping Stephen Weiss back to Florida, which I doubt they would do, there is no chance that the Wings will trade for Campbell at the moment.

Five Players To Watch This Season | Grand Rapids Griffins
The article says the following about Anthony Mantha: “But he’ll start the season in Grand Rapids, where he’ll work on his defense and, no doubt, score a few goals.” Mantha beginning his season in Grand Rapids makes perfect sense, as he will need to get back into shape after his current injury. But, has either Babcock or Holland verbally come out and said that he will?

If it’s over for him, Daniel Alfredsson the player and person should be celebrated | The Hockey News
Similar to Mike Modano and potentially Marty Brodeur, Alfredsson’s career should not be judged by his time in Detroit, but by his long, successful career in Ottawa.

The World Cup of Hockey is coming back, so let’s just forget about the Olympics – SBNation.com
I disagree with this. The Olympics are the most prestigious competition in sports, and winning an Olympic Gold medal is a unique experience which winning the World Cup would not bring. I would rather the NHL participate in both tournaments, and do away with the IIHF World Championships. That way we have a major international ice hockey tournament every other year.

Would Carolina be better off trading Eric Staal? | ProHockeyTalk
In the short-term, the answer is a clear no. In the long-term, it all depends on what Carolina receives in return for him. If Carolina either holds the first or second pick in this years draft, and manages to draft either Jack Eichel or Connor McDavid, then it may be worth it. Still, I think that Carolina, with a few more pieces, can easily compete for a playoff spot in the East. Moving Eric Staal reduces their chances of making the postseason by quite a bit for the next few seasons.

Ducks send Gibson to AHL (to play two games) | ProHockeyTalk
Gibson struggled in the Ducks‘ first game of the season against the Penguins, giving up six goals. A pair of wins in the AHL can be a huge confidence booster for the young netminder.
