Quick Hits: The Lack of Momentum Edition

In Red Wings Land

Grand Rapids Griffins carry long losing skid, but fresh start, into playoffs | Detroit News

Any hockey team will tell you that ideally, you like to go into the postseason with some momentum. Even if it’s just a little.

But the Griffins, the Red Wings’ minor-league affiliate, will open the American League playoffs Friday in Chicago having lost nine straight games.

Momentum? Maybe, but it was going in the opposite direction.

I literally did a double take when I read that the Griffins lost *NINE STRAIGHT GAMES* to end the regular season.

Holy sh*t.

I, admittedly, haven’t paid close attention to them this season, so this is a surprise to me. I know the Red Wings took a bunch all of their players for a stretch there, but yikes. I guess I won’t hold my breath when it comes to expecting them to win another Calder Cup, so let’s just hope that Filip Zadina has a great series.
