Niskanen is a very good defenseman. He is young, and shoots right-handed. From a player perspective, I have no problem with the Wings pursuing him. My problem is the massive contract that he will receive. Niskanen is almost certain to receive a seven-year deal, and a cap hit north of $5 million. The salary I am fine with, it’s the term that I cannot stomach.
