Quick Hits: Justin Abdelkader, The (Almost) 30-Goal Scorer

Red Wings News

Islanders 5, Red Wings 4: Petr Mrazek pulled early in second period as Detroit starts fast but can’t finish | MLive.com
Neither Petr Mrazek nor Jimmy Howard has been great in net recently, and the play by the team in front of them has not helped either. There are seven games left to play this season. A long winning-streak would be very nice right now.

Sad news for the Babcock family.

Detroit Red Wings’ Justin Abdelkader continues torrid pace, building on his breakout season | MLive.com
Justin Abdelkader will most likely finish the season just a couple of goals shy of the 30-goal mark, which is incredible considering his play a couple of years ago. Abby has a better goals per game average (0.34) than Gustav Nyquist (0.32), and is only sightly behind Tomas Tatar (0.37) in the category. Pavel Datsyuk leads the Wings with his 0.41 average.

Penguins’ Kris Letang out with (another) concussion after Doan hit | Puck Daddy
Kris Letang has been one of the best defensemen in the NHL this season, and should be a candidate for the Norris Trophy. He may be out for a while after a hit by Shane Doan.

Report: Doan won’t be punished for Letang hit | ProHockeyTalk
The hit in and of itself was not suspension worthy. Letang’s concussion was the result of the hit and his own position on the play.

Why the Penguins should trade Sidney Crosby for the No. 1 pick | The Hockey News
Yes, this article is actually suggesting that the Penguins should move Sidney Crosby in order to draft Connor McDavid. Crosby is by far the best player in the NHL, and while McDavid has the potential to be great, he has yet to even play in an NHL game! As much as I dislike the Penguins, moving Crosby would be a terrible move.

Ovechkin, Chimera score 2 each in Caps’ win over Rangers | USA Today
Not much has been said about the Capitals this season, but they have quietly been really good. They comfortably hold a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and with their offense, they could cause an upset or two in the playoffs.

Flyers’ Lecavalier at a career crossroads – Sportsnet.ca
Vincent Lecavalier’s play has not been able to reach the heights it was at a couple of years ago, and the 34-year-old’s NHL career may be nearing an end. He has a massive contract with the Flyers, and been a regular healthy scratch this season.

Andre Deveaux viciously slashes opponent before Swedish league playoff game (Video) | Puck Daddy
I understand that a lot was on the line (promotion to the SHL) but slashing someone before a game has even begun is inexcusable. I do not expect Deveaux to be playing in Sweden again this season, or next season for that matter.

Turns out Seguin was hungry for goals and food.
