Quick Hits: NHL Awards

Red Wings News

Wings to begin talks with DeKeyser, Sheahan, Tatar | ProHockeyTalk
Pay them all Kenny, pay them all. At least then we can all rest with a little more comfort.

Duff: Five questions with Wings GM Ken Holland | Windsor Star

Holland really didn’t tip his hat about anything besides that he likes our youth, but would not mind signing a free agent defenseman to a one or two year deal.

Detroit Red Wings 2014 NHL Draft preview – Hockey’s Future

Taking a look at what the Wings need, and what the Wings might do at this years draft.

Restrospective: Red Wings Bertuzzi, Samuelsson | Sports – Home

While he struggled this past season, Bertuzzi was a great player for us. He really did contribute, and he did fit into the team. And although this most recent stint for Samuelsson was not the greatest, he was a decent player during his first stay in Detroit. Let’s not forget that.

NHL News

Penguins’ Sidney Crosby named NHL MVP for 2nd time | USA Today
You really cannot argue against this. Hate him or love him, Crosby is one talented player.

Dominic Moore wins the 2014 Masterton Trophy | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports
Moore certainly deserved this award. Although I am sure that it is incredibly bittersweet for him.

Keith edges Weber, Chara for his second Norris Trophy | ProHockeyTalk
Are Keith, Chara, and Weber the three best defenseman in the NHL right now? Keith and Weber certainly are, but I think it is a fair argument to place either Suter or Doughty ahead of Chara. Or Erik Karlsson, if he was just a more well-rounded player.

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick has wrist surgery, out 10-12 weeks – The Hockey News

Quick was injured during the Western Conference semi-final. But that did not stop him from leading the Kings to the Cup.

Quick learner: Patrick Roy takes the Jack Adams | ProHockeyTalk
Roy received nearly three times as many votes as Babcock received. He also received 57 more first place votes than Babcock. Safe to say, Roy won this award by a wide margin.

Ron Hainsey re-signs with Canes for three years, $8.5 million – CBSSports.com
I don’t know if its just me, or if this is a common occurrence, but I keep on forgetting that the Hurricanes exist. Every time I read something about them I always remember that there is a team in the Carolinas. This was one of those occurrences.

Bruins’ Tuukka Rask wins Vezina Trophy | ProHockeyTalk
In my book it was Rask or Bishop. Rask ended up receiving 16 first place votes while Bishop only received one. Howard did not receive any votes.

Don’t be afraid of Ales Hemsky in NHL free agency – SBNation.com

If the Wings do not bring back Alfie, I hope that Hemsky is one of the options that they will consider. He is a good player, and could certainly produce 50ish points in a season.

Ryan O’Reilly wins 2014 Lady Byng Trophy | ProHockeyTalk
Wow, I never saw this one coming.

Button Mock Draft: Panthers select Ekblad first overall | TSN
The Panthers could use some more defensemen, which makes Ekblad the good choice. Plus, defense wins championships.

Ducks’ Murray takes GM of the Year award | ProHockeyTalk
I am kind of surprised that Holland received one first place vote. I know that he managed our injury crisis well, but the Legwand trade was not the greatest, and outside of signing Alfredsson, his moves have not worked out too well recently.

Patrice Bergeron wins NHL15 cover vote over P.K. Subban: Report | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports

I was hoping for Subban to win, but whatever, at least Bergeron is a better choice than Brodeur.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
