Happy NHL Draft Lottery day to all who celebrate! (getting sick of saying this)
Tonight, we’ll find out the draft order for picks 1-15. ESPN will broadcast the lottery at 7 PM ET, and it will be a LIVE drawing this time around. What that means is instead of watching a countdown from 16 to 1 after the lottery balls are drawn behind the curtains, we’ll watch live as the lottery balls are drawn. It’s wild to think that this is the first time this event has been done live in the 30 years the Draft Lottery has been around.
San Jose, Chicago, and Nashville have the highest odds of getting pick no. 1, while Detroit’s chances are precisely zero. Here is where Detroit’s odds stand:
Pick no. 2: 5.1% chance
Pick no. 3: 0.1% chance
Pick no. 4: 0.1% chance
Pick no. 12: 85.7% chance
Pick no. 13: 8.9% chance
Pick no. 14: 0.2% chance
So, as you can see, it’s likely the Wings will be picking 12th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, but there is a very small chance they could jump 10 picks and get 2nd overall…But as we all know, Detroit’s luck in these events has not been great! Cross your fingers, do your Draft Lottery dance, wear your lucky socks, etc.
Not much else on the Red Wings news wire, but the Grand Rapids Griffins will look to get right tonight in game two of a best-of-five series against the Texas Stars. Game one was about as ugly as it gets — a 4-0 loss on home ice. They’ll need a win tonight, otherwise it’s going to take three straight wins to advance in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Finally, I’ll drop a question for everyone to discuss today: Have you been watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs so far? What have you thought? I watched last night’s game seven between Winnipeg and St. Louis — and if you didn’t, you missed a good one. Incredible game start-to-finish with the Jets overcoming a big deficit late in the game that ended with a 2OT win for the home team. Can the next round live up to the hype?
