You have to believe that Bertuzzi will retire if the Wings do not re-sign him. Bert is 39 years old now, and has taken a beating during his career. I still think that he can play in the NHL, but I don’t know if he wants to anymore.

The only two free agents that seem that they may return are Daniel Alfredsson and Jonas Gustavsson. Holland is still choosing between Mrazek and the Monster, and if Alfie wants to play another season, he will be welcomed back with open arms.

The problem is, if Weiss is healthy for the majority of the next season, and he does not play up to par, his contract becomes a major problem. A regular buyout would always be an option, but a pricey one. As a result, the Wings will most likely give Weiss the next two seasons to play, regardless of how well he does next season. Because moving him is not really an option if he does not return to his former form. That said, I fully believe that he will, so this is all a nonissue.

The big question will be whether or not someone tries to pry Jeff Blashill away from Grand Rapids. Regardless of whether he wins the Calder Cup again or not, there will be substantial interest from other teams. I hope the Wings can hold onto him for one more season, to see what Babcock’s future plans are, before letting a good coaching prospect leave the organization.

Wait, is this a joke? Fine, Patrick Roy may very well end up winning the Adams Trophy, but to say that he will be the “runaway winner” is utterly arrogant and inaccurate. This is the second sentence of the article: “Patrick Roy is the obvious, slam-dunk, no-brainer award winner”. Rory Boylen, you are just digging yourself a deeper hole.
Regardless of who wins, it will be a tight race. To say that one coach is head and shoulders above the others is simply wrong. All three had their teams eliminated in the first round. All three overcame some form of adversity. All three were nominated for different reasons. But to say that one of these coaches is the sure-fire winner is the most immodest and injudicious statement that I have ever heard.
