Quick Hits: Raymond and the Apple(ton) of my Eye

It’s Lightning vs. Red Wings tonight at Little Caesars Arena. The Wings come into the game with a three-game win streak. It appears that John Gibson will get a shot at redemption. Really hope the team can play like they have been the last few games. Gibson needs to get his legs under him. It’s a long season and Cam Talbot is 38 years old.

For what it’s worth, Mason Appleton skated with Dylan Larkin and Emmitt Finnie at practice on Thursday. A sign that perhaps Lucas Raymond is still healing, and a vote of confidence in Appleton. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Raymond is at least skating with the team, so his return isn’t far off. Here’s a silly anecdote – after Appleton scored his third goal of the season, I thought “this guy is WAY better than Vladimir Tarasenko.”

Apparently there is a rumor out there that Detroit is looking to move Travis Hamonic and Erik Gustafsson via trade. Obviously both of these experiments failed for Steve Yzerman. Get ’em outta here, all due respect. I will say this about a potential trade for either of these two players — I’ll be a little pissed if we have to “pay” a team to get a deal done. Unlikely to happen.

Do you know how cool it is to see Amon-Ra St. Brown in a Moritz Seider jersey? Considering that St. Brown is also German, I thought it was pretty sweet! Always warms my heart to see Detroit teams showing up for each other.

Finally, some relevant news from a division rival — Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk will be out for up to eight weeks after having surgery on his right thumb.
