Alexis Lafreniere calls Red Wings ‘great organization,’ Veleno reunion ‘fun’

KULFAN: “I know Joe from playing with him two times in juniors,” said Lafreniere, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound winger (Veleno’s a center). “He’s my good friend now. For sure it would be fun to play with him (in the NHL).”

Gotta agree with the kid here. This would be fun. I think we can all be friends.

Friedman speculates on what Yzerman sees in Larkin that he saw in himself

“I have had very positive talks with Steve throughout the season,” Larkin wrote via email. “He has been very helpful and a mentor to me as someone who has been in this situation a few times as a player and manager. His advice has been to make sure my level of professionalism — in mindset, work ethic and leadership — is setting the tone and example for the rest of the team all the time.”

In his latest “31 Thoughts,” Elliotte Friedman talks a little about the contrast of Steve Yzerman and Dylan Larkin as role-players in their professional careers. It’s number 15 on the list. Worth reading.

NHL Announces Postponements of Draft, other events

NEW YORK / TORONTO (March 25, 2020) – The National Hockey League today announced the postponements of the 2020 NHL Scouting Combine, the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Awards, and the 2020 NHL Draft, which were originally scheduled for June 1-6 in Buffalo, N.Y., June 18 in Las Vegas, and June 26-27 in Montreal, respectively, due to the ongoing uncertainty resulting from the coronavirus.

The location, timing and format of the 2020 NHL Draft (and Draft Lottery) will be announced when details are finalized.

With respect to the Bridgestone NHL Awards, the League looks forward to returning to Las Vegas in the future. Las Vegas has been the home of the Bridgestone NHL Awards since 2009.

Well, this shouldn’t be a surprise, but it’s very unfortunate for all hockey fans. The fact of the matter is that these events bring in a lot of people. For safety of the public, and players, this is for the best. Looks like Alexis Lafreniere will have to wait a little longer to learn that he is a Red Wing.
