Quick Hits: The Yzerman’s Next Steps Edition
In Red Wings Land
Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has lengthy to-do list in weeks ahead | Detroit News
► Buyouts/trades: The buyout period is June 15-30 and though it’s unlikely, forwards Justin Abdelkader and Frans Nielsen are two players with multiple years left on their contract whose roster spots could be used for younger prospects.
Yzerman always has been aggressive in making trades, and along with Abdelkader and Nielsen, defensemen Trevor Daley, Jonathan Ericsson and Mike Green, all of whom have one year left on their contracts, would be potential trade candidates.
I’m most curious about this part of Steve Yzerman’s to-do list for the Red Wings. I really don’t know what he’ll do here. If I absolutely had to guess, I’d say he does nothing at the moment with the players mentioned above.
With all that said, it’s going to be a great, great feeling when he does pull off some rabbit-out-of-the-hat magic move that we never saw coming. I still haven’t come down from the Yzerman-high. I cannot freakin’ wait for the offseason to kick into gear.

Should Steve Yzerman and the Wings draft Cole Caufield at #6? All the kid does is score goals.
