Grubauer, Johnson out indefinitely for Avalanche in West Second Round
Grubauer was injured in a 5-3 loss in Game 1 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, the Western hub city, on Saturday. The goalie was helped from the ice at 3:06 of the second period, favoring his left leg, after a shot attempt by Stars forward Denis Gurianov went wide. Grubauer made seven saves on 10 shots before leaving; Colorado was trailing 3-1 at the time of the injury.
Johnson did not play the third period Saturday. Coach Jared Bednar said the defenseman "tweaked something as well and thought he could go, tried it, [and] wasn't able to do that."
Not great for Colorado, obviously. Fortunately for them, they have Nathan MacKinnon, who has been the best player in the post-season in my opinion. Pavel Francouz will take over the reins in goal, and while he’s not as well known as Grubauer, he’s played well this season for Colorado.
I wrote the above before last night’s game. Colorado is obviously in more trouble now, down 2 games to 0. I still wouldn’t write them off yet, but Dallas is now in a great spot for the upset.
