Red Wings Rumblings
Hopefully you’re still buzzing from the win over Buffalo. Relatively quiet around Red Wings world, though a couple of items — such as prospect forward Max Plante getting a chance to be on the 2025 U.S. National Junior Team.
Or how about something that everyone expected — former Red Wing Luke Witkowski is the “spark” that the SHL’s Skelleftea club has desparetly needed this season. This is relevant of course, because two of Detroit’s top prospects (Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard) play for this team. Speaking of, here are some highlights of MBN playing with Team Norway recently.
NHL News
Elliotte Friedman dropped a some notes out of the Board of Governors meeting. The Florida Panthers are working on an outdoor game where the Marlins play. Sounds wild, I’m all in. Would love to see how they manage the ice there. The biggest piece of information was Bettman’s statements about the salary cap. The NHL Commissioner says that there will be negotiations with the NHLPA about a cap increase of some 5%. I’m not really a “numbers” guy, but that figure seems pretty significant. A lot more information and numbers can be found over at NHL dot com.
In some other news, longtime NHL defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has announced his retirement. 14 seasons between seven teams. I’ll always remember how much of a pain in the ass he was to play against back in his prime.
