Red Wings Rumblings
The Boston Bruins have officially moved on from head coach Jim Montgomery after a slow start. Of course, the Wings are among the teams who could benefit from a coaching change. As I pointed out in my opinion column yesterday, this is a unique opportunity for Steve Yzerman to go against his ways of making coaching decisions in the offseason. It seems like the entire fanbase is onboard with the idea of moving on from Derek Lalonde and handing the reins over to Montgomery. What remains unknown is Montgomery’s plans. Does he want to jump back into an NHL job or does he want to take the time to get his bearings before he starts job hunting. If I were in charge, I’d be preparing an offer that Montgomery couldn’t refuse.
Couple of prospect-related items to pass along… Nate Danielson earned himself one of the AHL plays of the week:
And Dmitry Buchelnikov is on a heater so far this KHL season, earning himself no. 6 on the KHL player rating.
NHL News
Jakub Vrana is back in the NHL and appears to be flourishing with the Washington Capitals. He has seven points in 14 games after a rocky year. Just wanted to mention this because I’m happy for him. It didn’t work out here in Detroit, but it’s good to see he’s back.
